Meet Sara Trought
Registered Psychotherapist based in Ontario
Welcome! I'm Sara Trought, a Registered Psychotherapist. I've spent over two decades helping people find their way through some of life's hardest moments — and I know firsthand what it means to need that help.
When I was 17, a traumatic motor vehicle accident changed the course of my life. In the aftermath, therapy gave me something I hadn't expected: a way through. That experience never left me. It became the foundation of why I do this work, and why I understand what it feels like to sit in that chair.
"My goal is to offer the same quality of care and compassion that helped me find my own footing — and to walk alongside you as you find yours."
I began my career in multidisciplinary clinics specializing in chronic pain and weight management, where I developed a deep appreciation for how physical and emotional wellbeing shape one another. Eighteen years ago, the birth of my eldest son led me to transition into private practice — a decision that has allowed me to offer a more personal, focused, and sustained approach to the people I work with.
Qualifications
II completed my honours degree in psychology at Queen's University, followed by a Master's in counselling psychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychology. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
Sara is a Registered Psychotherapist in Toronto specializing in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). She offers evidence-based psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions — helping individuals move forward with clarity and confidence.
Anxiety and depression are among the most common mental health concerns, and also the most treatable. Sara's approach to CBT therapy combines structure with flexibility, focusing on practical tools you can apply in daily life — not just in session.
This isn't passive talk therapy. Sara works actively with you to identify patterns, challenge unhelpful thinking, and build new ways of responding that create real, lasting change.
Psychotherapy sessions are available in person in Toronto and virtually across Ontario. Whether you're searching for a therapist in Toronto or prefer the convenience of online therapy, Sara makes support accessible wherever you are.

Techniques I Use
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioural therapy is one of the most effective and widely used approaches in modern psychotherapy. It’s especially powerful for psychotherapy for anxiety and psychotherapy for depression, where patterns of thinking and behaviour play a central role.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Where CBT focuses on changing unhelpful thoughts, ACT focuses on changing your relationship to them. This approach is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, and chronic stress — especially when you feel stuck in patterns you can’t “think your way out of.”
Adlerian Therapy
Adlerian therapy adds depth to the work. It looks at how your early experiences, relationships, and beliefs about yourself have shaped the patterns you’re living out today.
It complements cognitive behavioural therapy by helping us understand not just what to change — but why those patterns developed in the first place.
