Psychotherapy for ADHD & Neurodiversity
Many individuals with ADHD and other forms of neurodiversity have had the experience of feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or out of sync with expectations placed on them. Therapy offers a space to better understand how you think, feel, and function — without judgment — and to develop strategies that are aligned with who you are.
My approach is neurodiversity-affirming and tailored to the individual. Rather than focusing on “fixing” challenges, we work toward understanding patterns, reducing distress, and building practical supports that are sustainable in daily life.
Areas of focus may include:
Managing overwhelm, burnout, and emotional regulation
Difficulties with focus, organization, and follow-through
Chronic self-criticism, shame, or feelings of “falling behind”
Navigating relationships and communication
Co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, or stress
How ADHD & Neurodiversity Therapy Works at Talk With Sara
I’m Sara Trought, a Registered Psychotherapist, based in Toronto’s Danforth area. I draw from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and elements of emotion-focused and somatic approaches. This allows us to work both practically and experientially — developing skills and strategies while also addressing the emotional impact of living in environments that may not always accommodate neurodivergent ways of functioning.
Sessions are collaborative and flexible, with an emphasis on creating structure where helpful while respecting your natural rhythms and strengths.
A formal diagnosis is not required. Whether you identify with ADHD traits or have received a diagnosis, you are welcome to explore this work.
